Bennet
Chapel Baptist Church
A
church that "Walks by faith, not by sight."
II Corinthians 5:7 KJV
Bennett Chapel Baptist Church is a small church located in Shelby
County, Texas in the small community of Possum Trot. The members
are common ordinary people, living life one day at a time and having
a burden for their community as well as for the world. With the guidance
of Pastor W.C. Martin and his wife, Donna, the
church is full of compassion toward one another as well as towards the
community. As a church, they realize that to change this world, hearts
need to be changed one at a time.
Many children in our community are in need of loving parents. Children
who have been abused in many ways need acceptance and a protected environment.
The Lord has placed a burden on the hearts of Pastor Martin and his
wife, Donna, for the children. Under the leadership of the Lord, this
unselfish couple has adopted four children. They work tirelessly loving
and giving support to their six children. Due to their example, the
body of Christ at Bennett Chapel Baptist Church has taken up the
challenge of adopting and fostering the very children that were considered
unadoptable because of the physical and emotional abuse that the
children have endured.
Adopting such a child cannot be a passing fancy. The parents are faced
with a lifetime commitment to each of these children. To date,
forty families have adopted seventy children. Truly this body
of believers is a living testimony to the scripture that says, "Religion
that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after
orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being
polluted by the world." James 1:27 NIV.
Pastor Martin teaches his congregation to "Put
on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the
devil's schemes." Ephesians 6:11 NIV. Christians often
go out into battle and forget to put on their armor, but in order to
be a ministering church, it is a must to be fully clothed in the armor
of God.
Due to the adoption of so many children, this body of believers has
received a surge of national attention. As you explore this site, you
will discover the many television and radio programs, and newspaper
and magazine articles that have focused on this ministry. God has
richly blessed the giving hearts of this congregation, as the news
of their efforts has been shared and spread.
May God enrich each of your lives as you explore this site.
If this body of believers may be of any assistance to you, whether you
live in Maine, California, or just around the corner, please let them
know.
